Simple Steps for Healthy Smiles at Home

Caring for Your Teeth Between Visits

Diet, Pain Relief, and Proper Care Made Easy

Taking care of your oral health at home plays an important role in how often you need to visit our clinic. Good daily care helps catch issues early and supports long term oral health. For patients who have had recent treatments, such as fillings, crowns, or extractions, following proper home care is especially important.

Diet – Sugary and starchy foods expose teeth to decay. If you do enjoy these snacks, brush and floss afterward to protect your teeth and gums. After dental treatment, a soft diet is recommended for the first 24 to 48 hours. Chew on the opposite side of your mouth and avoid hard, sticky foods such as nuts, seeds, raw vegetables, and popcorn.

It is normal to experience some sensitivity or discomfort after a dental procedure. In most cases, this will improve within the first 24 to 48 hours.

Pain Relief   Mild discomfort can often be managed with over the counter pain medication when taken as directed. If pain persists, it may indicate an issue such as tooth decay or a loose filling. The best way to know the cause is to book an appointment. Avoid using straws, smoking, or vigorous rinsing, as these can interfere with healing.

Proper Care   Use a soft bristle toothbrush, as it is gentle on both teeth and gums. Toothpaste recommendations may vary depending on your individual needs, so feel free to ask our team for guidance. Keeping your gums clean with gentle brushing, flossing, and rinsing with warm saltwater will help them recover more quickly after treatment.
